Horse-racing regulations state that no race
horse's name may contain more than
eighteen letters. Names that are too long
would be cumbersome on racing sheets.
Why are private detectives called
"Private Eyes"? Around 1925 the
Pinkerton Detective agency adopted
"we never sleep" as its motto. To
symbolize this, the motto was shown
over the picture of an ever wakeful eye.
It is this picture that led to private
detectives being called "private eyes".
