The Neocons

What IS a neocon, anyway? Max Boot, writing in the December 30, 2002 Wall
Street Journal, wondered the same thing and does a good job of delineating
the term in What the Heck is a Neocon?:

Many conservatives ... suggest that we need to promote our [U.S.] values,
for the simple reason that liberal democracies rarely fight one another,
sponsor terrorism, or use weapons of mass destruction. If we are to avoid
another 9/11, they argue, we need to liberalize the Middle Easta massive
undertaking, to be sure, but better than the unspeakable alternative. And if
this requires occupying Iraq for an extended period, so be it; we did it
with Germany, Japan and Italy, and we can do it again.

The most prominent champions of this view inside the administration are Vice
President Dick Cheney and Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz. Their
agenda is known as neoconservatism, though a more accurate term might be
hard Wilsonianism. Advocates of this view embrace Woodrow Wilsons
championing of American ideals but reject his reliance on international
organizations and treaties to accomplish our objectives. (Soft Wilsonians,
a k a liberals, place their reliance, in Charles Krauthammers trenchant
phrase, on paper, not power.) Like Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt
and Ronald Reagan, hard Wilsonians want to use American might to promote
American ideals.

For more, see Neocon 101: some basic questions answered, in the Christian
Science Monitor, as well as my links to information about PNAC, the Project
for a New American Century.

Whatever. As far as Im concerned, these hard Wilsonians are a little too
power-mad, and a little too blind to the realities of the cultures and
traditions of the great majority of the worlds peoples. They are also blind
to their own realities; I mean, look at Boots first sentence: liberal
democracies [fine to appropriate that word liberal when it can be
manipulated for a conservative viewpoint] rarely . . . use weapons of mass
destruction. And with that bit of chicanery, these guys deserve every
scathing bit of parody, satire, and political cartooning theyre getting.
This category, as a matter of fact, of parody and satire, now numbers more
than 200 links in the massive Democratic Underground Links Directory. A
sampling of my recommended favorites:

Weekly World News: Politics
The supermarket tabloids version of what is going on with the cons!
Outlandish insider gossip laced with bizarre exaggerations--but actually
quite preferable in many ways to that of more respected rags. I like this
one: No-Book Bush! It would be hypocritical says non-reading Dubya,
concerning the so-called George W. Bush Presidential Library.

This Modern World
New cartoon every week (also featured in Salon magazine) as well as
archives, blog, links, t-shirts, moreall the unique work of Tom Tomorrow.

>From the outlandish to the outrageous.

The Worried Shrimp
Genius is the only word for these photoshopped toons! Bush as the moron he
truly is in a huge assortment of fabulous posters. Click on the links at the
top for other series.

Top 10 Conservative Idiots
The list changes weekly. Each with a write-up, and ratings in umpteen
categories like chickenhawk, Clinton bashing, booze, covering your ass, etc.
On the Democratic Underground web site.

Speaking of chickenhawks, the Chickenhawk Database of the New Hampshire
Gazette is the best known list of American chickenhawks. . . . The alleged
'gentlemen' listed in this database are here because they share three
qualities: bellicosity (a warlike manner or temperament), public prominence,
and a curious lack of wartime service when others their age had no trouble
finding the fight. . . . The fact that they's almost all Republicans is . .
. well, curious, don't you think? Includes Name, Position or Employer, Year
Born, Relevant Conflict Avoided, Lame Excuse, and Preferred Activity. A lot
more names than you'd think.

Wizard of Whimsy

Another photoshop genius--don't miss these outstanding hilarious/disturbing
toons of Bush as Alfred E. Newman, Napoleon, and many more, Ridge as evil
clown, bird-flipping Rumsfeld in a patriotic G-string, the whole bunch of
them in a can of worms!

Evil GOP Bastards
Scathing look at the Republican Partys diabolical plot to replace
constitutional democracy with an oligarchic fascist theocracy. Great
graphics, insightful commentary, fact-based indictments of Republican key
players and policies. Check out the boycott of Rush Limbaugh sponsors and
first-hand report of bringing the chickenhawk down on live radio!

Patriotic Posters
whitehouse.org

Irreverent, clever, well-done posters of Bush and the neocons in 1940s
rosy-cheeked apple-pie WWII style.

Nice Guy? or the Devils Spawn?
Thoroughly researched, convincing evidence from numerology, Nostradamus,
Skull & Bones, biblical prophecy, and the Bush family connection to
Holocaust profits that Dubya is indeed the AntiChrist. This site probably
should not be labeled parody! The music alone makes a visit worthwhile.

Radical Anarchist Posters
Fabulous must-see extensive collection of Anti-War, Anti-Bush, and
Anti-Fascist posters.

Bush Speaks
One of the most, if not THE most, popular antiBush sites. Constantly updated
collection of photo-cartoons with Bush quotes. Includes a message board and
Bush Speech Generator.

The Peace Pretzel: Counter-Propaganda for the People
Posters free to post, print, and share--very nice new site not about
hating Bush, its about loving America and believing that this country
deserves better. . . . these posters do not unfairly attack George W. Bush,
they just use his own words and actions against him. They shine a light on
truths that much of the media has been willing to overlook.

Bartcop.com
A little bit of everything here; you never know what youre going to find at
Bartcop, another very popular Republican red-ass specialist web site.
Constantly updated with commentary, cartoons, and soon even Bartcop Radio.

Too Stupid to be President
Fabulous extensive collection of Flash animations, interactive cartoons and
video clips, all playing on Bush, his buddies, and their shenanigans.

Very well-done parody of genuine White House web site with satirical news
about everything from the Department of Faith to the First Lady. Includes
Kids Letters to the President, more.
