Yes, please use e1000e.  The reason for upgrading the e1000 driver is
to remove support (in e1000 driver) for those devices supported in
e1000e.  If you do not update the e1000 driver, then you will have two
drivers on the system which both support your NIC, and the system may
resort to using the e1000 driver instead of e1000e.

Yes, there were bug fixes and cleanups with that driver.  We should
have that driver also posted to our sourceforge site later this week.
