I have a HP ProLiant DL180 G6 with relatively high traffic (~800 Mbit/s
traffic, ~55000 connections in "netstat -tna | wc -l"), where Linux crashes
every few days.

I signaled the issue before, and it was suggested I may need to update network
card's firmware:

http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.network.general/14930

Since it's not clear to me how one updates firmware on a e1000 card, I thought
I'd have more luck on this list!

More information:

- crash screenshots:

- tried almost every 2.6.35.x kernel, up to 2.6.35.12

- the last time it crashed, I had "BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer
dereference at (null)" in syslog (and nothing more, had to hard reboot)

- full lspci output for the card below

Some questions:

- can it be really attributed to the network card? if so, what next?

- would upgrading to a different kernel help (i.e. is it a known issue in e1000
resolved in >2.6.35)?

- any other suggestions?
