I have a HP ProLiant DL180 G6 with relatively high traffic (~800 Mbit/s traffic, ~55000 connections in "netstat -tna | wc -l"), where Linux crashes every few days.
I signaled the issue before, and it was suggested I may need to update network card's firmware: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.network.general/14930 Since it's not clear to me how one updates firmware on a e1000 card, I thought I'd have more luck on this list! More information: - crash screenshots: http://virtall.com/files/temp/IMG00066-20110420-0956.jpg http://virtall.com/files/temp/IMG00067-20110420-0957.jpg http://virtall.com/files/temp/2011-06-15_16-19-51_252.jpg - tried almost every 2.6.35.x kernel, up to 2.6.35.12 - the last time it crashed, I had "BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null)" in syslog (and nothing more, had to hard reboot) - full lspci output for the card below Some questions: - can it be really attributed to the network card? if so, what next? - would upgrading to a different kernel help (i.e. is it a known issue in e1000 resolved in >2.6.35)? - any other suggestions? 07:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82576 Gigabit Network Connection (rev 01) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Unknown device 323f Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr+ Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 0, Cache Line Size: 256 bytes Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 28 Region 0: Memory at fbe60000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128K] Region 1: Memory at fbe40000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128K] Region 2: I/O ports at e880 [size=32] Region 3: Memory at fbeb8000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K] Expansion ROM at fbe20000 [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 3 Flags: PMEClk- DSI+ D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0+,D1-,D2-,D3hot+,D3cold+) Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=1 PME- Capabilities: [50] Message Signalled Interrupts: 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable- Address: 0000000000000000 Data: 0000 Capabilities: [70] MSI-X: Enable+ Mask- TabSize=10 Vector table: BAR=3 offset=00000000 PBA: BAR=3 offset=00002000 Capabilities: [a0] Express Endpoint IRQ 0 Device: Supported: MaxPayload 512 bytes, PhantFunc 0, ExtTag- Device: Latency L0s <512ns, L1 <64us Device: AtnBtn- AtnInd- PwrInd- Device: Errors: Correctable+ Non-Fatal+ Fatal+ Unsupported+ Device: RlxdOrd+ ExtTag- PhantFunc- AuxPwr- NoSnoop+ Device: MaxPayload 256 bytes, MaxReadReq 4096 bytes Link: Supported Speed 2.5Gb/s, Width x4, ASPM L0s L1, Port 0 Link: Latency L0s <4us, L1 <64us Link: ASPM Disabled RCB 64 bytes CommClk+ ExtSynch- Link: Speed 2.5Gb/s, Width x4 Capabilities: [100] Advanced Error Reporting Capabilities: [140] Device Serial Number ce-cc-41-ff-ff-05-a9-18 Capabilities: [150] Unknown (14) Capabilities: [160] Unknown (16) 07:00.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82576 Gigabit Network Connection (rev 01) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Unknown device 323f Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr+ Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 0, Cache Line Size: 256 bytes Interrupt: pin B routed to IRQ 40 Region 0: Memory at fbee0000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128K] Region 1: Memory at fbec0000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128K] Region 2: I/O ports at ec00 [size=32] Region 3: Memory at fbebc000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K] Expansion ROM at fbe80000 [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 3 Flags: PMEClk- DSI+ D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0+,D1-,D2-,D3hot+,D3cold+) Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=1 PME- Capabilities: [50] Message Signalled Interrupts: 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable- Address: 0000000000000000 Data: 0000 Capabilities: [70] MSI-X: Enable+ Mask- TabSize=10 Vector table: BAR=3 offset=00000000 PBA: BAR=3 offset=00002000 Capabilities: [a0] Express Endpoint IRQ 0 Device: Supported: MaxPayload 512 bytes, PhantFunc 0, ExtTag- Device: Latency L0s <512ns, L1 <64us Device: AtnBtn- AtnInd- PwrInd- Device: Errors: Correctable+ Non-Fatal+ Fatal+ Unsupported+ Device: RlxdOrd+ ExtTag- PhantFunc- AuxPwr- NoSnoop+ Device: MaxPayload 256 bytes, MaxReadReq 4096 bytes Link: Supported Speed 2.5Gb/s, Width x4, ASPM L0s L1, Port 0 Link: Latency L0s <4us, L1 <64us Link: ASPM Disabled RCB 64 bytes CommClk+ ExtSynch- Link: Speed 2.5Gb/s, Width x4 Capabilities: [100] Advanced Error Reporting Capabilities: [140] Device Serial Number ce-cc-41-ff-ff-05-a9-18 Capabilities: [150] Unknown (14) Capabilities: [160] Unknown (16) -- Tomasz Chmielewski http://wpkg.org ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ EditLive Enterprise is the world's most technically advanced content authoring tool.
