Dunno if you tried it yet: It often helps to compile a kernel with "lockup detection" enabled. You'll find the entry in the "kernel hacking" menu. See also here: http://www.av8n.com/computer/htm/kernel-lockup.htm "When a soft-lockup is detected, the kernel will print the current stack trace (which you should report), but the system will stay locked up. This feature has negligible overhead." The problem mustn't be related to e1000e at all, maybe unloading the module beforehand just makes the problem less likely to occur.
