Unfortunately there is no easy way to accomplish this and we do not support it 
in our current drivers.

The location of the MAC in the EEPROM is not set and will vary based on your 
device and/or EEPROM version.

To find out more about how the MAC is stored on the EEPROM check out the 82599 
datasheet:

That is why we do not recommend it.

I suppose you are aware that you can modify the mac address (albeit not 
permanent) via ifconfig?
