Hi all,

Just in case someone else has this problem, don't look at the MAC documentation, you need to use the PHY documentation. Seeing as you have to go through the MAC to get to the PHY I had assumed that writing to the MAC registers would automatically set the corresponding PHY registers and that the MDIO interface would just give me a finer grained control on the PHY. I now see that that assumption was wrong. I modified the Linux e1000e driver to print up tons of debug information and I saw that 90% of the initialisation was writing directly to the PHY via the MDIO interface. I downloaded the 82579 PHY documentation, and as far as I can see this resolved all my missing information, and a few quick tests show that I can control the chipset behaviour.

Regards.

Hi Hisashi,

Tried that and didn't get anywhere I'm afraid. Specific links for the i218-v come back with URL not found. Generic i218 searches come back with chip selection information and the datasheets I've already mentioned below.

Regards.

Well, you should be able to go to intel.com and type the part number
into the search box. Remember to get both the datasheet and the
"specification update".

Hi All,

I am developing a driver for the i218-V and I am having real problems as I can't find proper documentation for this platform. Can anyone tell me where I can get this documentation please. So far I have found "pci-pci-x-family-gbe-controllers-software-dev-manual.pdf" and "i-o-controller-hub-8-9-10-82566-82567-82562v-software-dev-manual.pdf", however when I start comparing the Linux e1000e driver source against this documentation, there are many features that aren't in these documents, and finally whatever I do I cannot even turn the LEDs on and off.

Regards.
