I believe that what Don actually said was that we don't currently have plans to 
do this. There are steps that you can take through your sales channel that 
could make doing this feature a part of our plan. I'm sure it would take a 
little time, but that is not the only way to proceed.

This is open source! Patches can be accepted. But that doesn't mean that we'll 
accept just anything that happens to make this feature possible, but I'm pretty 
sure we would look at any offered patches and offer advice on how to make them 
acceptable.

We would want any such work be done on the upstream kernel driver because we 
would want the code and interface to be acceptable to the community. The 
feature would still make it into the out-of-tree driver, if that is important 
to you, because we try to keep the drivers in sync, but we really would want 
the work done in the upstream driver so that the community can review it along 
with us.

Of course both courses of action can be taken concurrently as well. Making more 
people aware of your use case can only help your cause.
