I've come across some issue with ixgbe, loaded in VMWare(esxi). I created number of VFs per interface and handed them to the VM via PCI passthrough mode(vSphere), but the problem is to configure L2 switch on 82599, to make it sorting packets upon VFs, according to the vlan or mac address, as result, I observe all packets end up in PF. I tried to set vlan filter from VM via the ixgbevf(via the Mailbox), but it seems to fail with error(8021q module is loaded in VM). I think if the communication between VF and PF works, when ixgbe is being loaded and MAC addresses are assigned to the VFs, it must inform 82599 via PF(using Mailbox) about the mapping and as result L2 Classifier/Switch knows about new assigned mac address and its VF, where the incoming packet would be directed. Any info about configuring L2 Switch on 82599 in Virtual Environment would be appreciated. Thanks,Maksim
