Yes - It was faulty hardware. We managed to mess up the external memory (we are the manufacturer)...
I was able to use one of your older drivers and boot in windows and successfully program the NVM. Then switch back to Linux and everything is fine. Kind of a lot of steps but that is what I will do for our production for now. Thanks you for your help!
