Unfortunately, the current state w.r.t. editing the .e4xmi files is
somewhat less than optimal.
My apologies if this is causing problems right now. In the last few weeks,
we decided to invest our (limited) time in the compatibility layer only.
This resulted in great progress on that front but also meant that other
areas were neglected.
I believe that with very little effort, someone could create a very
straightforward EMF-based editor for .e4xmi files (without the visual
design aspect) and make e4 a happier place for now. Any takers? ;-)

P.S. I would also like to understand why two instances of "Sample
reflective Ecore editor" show up in Open With>Other...
