Hi all, ADI and Sagem,

>From now on, eagle-usb team will switch works on developments for
ueagle-atm driver by Matthieu Castet :
      * this new driver works nearly like current speedtouch driver,
using usbatm and is based on *BSD's driver by Damien Bergamini
      * the current version ueagle-pre12 [1] is stable and works with
kernel-2.6.10 and above (tested on cooker & debian sarge)
      * the license chosen is dual BSD + GPL for some parts coming from
Damien's driver (big thanks to him for allowing it !). Any
contributions to the driver will be under this license to
include them in *BSD if needed.
      * a wiki is available at http://atm.eagle-usb.org and a
        documentation is currently available at
        http://dev.eagle-usb.org/wakka.php?wiki=DevEagleUsbATM

We have the remaining objectives to address to publish a 1.0 version of
ueagle-atm :
      * enhance installation (at least documentation), patched version
of usbatm being currently furnished (patch given upstream)
      * enhance configuration, though it's quite easy (but too manual),
stable scripts can come just after 1.0
      * begin to use the svn repository available at
        https://gna.org/projects/ueagleatm

We have been sensible to ADI & Sagem contributions and hope they can
take into account this new driver (mostly tests currently, distribution
in the near future) and continue to work with us.
I have accepted and understand that __source code cannot be released by
ADI for DSPcode & USB firmware__, "due to third party licensing issues".
      * we need an identified distribution license for DSPcode & USB
firmware though (we have none currently) : 2-clause BSD or
public domain would do __without source code__. We'd like a
confirmation by ADI as already asked 21st April 2005 (and
        reminded privately 26th May 2005).
      * once distribution-license chosen, distribution of the driver
will henceforth be as free as is __currently possible__, for
anyone (GNU/Linux distributions, mirrors, ...), firmwares
currently being non-free (as non-libre in french).
      * and then we can begin to ask to have the driver included in the
kernel (with non-free - as non-libre in french - for
firmwares :-( ), for users' sake and ease-of-installation. No
doubt questions about closed-firmwares will arise again :-(

(1) ueagle-pre13 is now available. Looking forward to get you involved
in testing !
