What we need is the information necessary to write free firmware. A binary-only non-free firmware blob won't do the job, in the Free World, because we can't distribute it without violating our principles.
Permission to distribute a binary-only driver would be like legal permission to drive a car over your dog. Permission or no permission, we can't *do* it.
