Subject: [Eagleusb-dev] Problem to connect ...

Hello,

i plan to change my server that connects to internet. Previously I used
a Athlon 850 MHz, and now i wan't to use a bi-athlon 1800+. My connexion
is working perfectly on the previous server (no deconnection). However,
when I try to connect with my new computer, there is a lot of problems.
First, the "startadsl" doesn't return. I look at the processes and "pppd
file /etc/ppp/peers/adsl" is running as well as "/usr/sbin/pppoa -I
eth1". When i look at the logs, pppd daemon is looping with the
following message :

Nov 10 13:10:37 serveur pppd[3897]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Nov 10 13:10:37 serveur pppd[3897]: Connection terminated.
Nov 10 13:10:37 serveur pppd[3897]: Using interface ppp0
Nov 10 13:10:37 serveur pppd[3897]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/2

When I cancel the script with ctl-c, I get the message :

/usr/sbin/fctStartAdsl: line 169: 3897 Segmentation fault pppd
file $OPTIONS >&/dev/null
Failed to launch connection!

Then when I relaunch the startadsl command, the connection works for few
minutes. Then, nothing appends : I can't ping anything, dns resolution
don't work, ... But nothing appears in the log files. "eaglestat" says
"Modem is operational". Only the out packet counter of pppstats
increments according to my requests.

I was thinking of a problem of power consumption by the modem, but under
windows XP, with the same configuration there is no problem !

Could you help me ?

Damien Touraine
PS : my configuration,
   Distribution : CRUX 2.0
   Kernel : 2.6.9 - SMP
   glibc : 2.3.3
   gcc : 3.3.3
   eagle-usb : 2.0.0
   pppd : 2.4.2
   memory : 1Go
   Nb CPU : 2
USB card : PCI plugged NEC [OHCI/EHCI] 2.0
   Modem : Sagem Fast 800E

   pppd : 2.4.2

Standard pppd-2.4.2 has a flaw with pty use when it stop.

You have to patch it with
http://users3.ev1.net/~ckite/public_html/download/main.c.diff-2.4.2.gz

Do you have the updetach option in your pppd peer file ?
AFAIK, it won't return unless you use this option.

I didn't explained that when I launched startadsl for the first time
(when i had to do Ctrl-c to stop it, with the seg fault), the ifconfig
command returns my own interfaces, as well as localhost. I also get eth1
interface (attached to the modem), but i don't have ppp0 interface. In
other words, the connection is not working.
