I don't know if this helps or not, but I have found that 256 megabytes is much too 
small to run 
any decent sized project in IDEA.  I find that when I am debugging, I can go as high 
as 500 
megabytes. When I do profiling, I'm often in the 756 megabytes.

I run with 1 gig of memory.  Otherwise you spend too much of your time swapping.
