Win2000, build629, JDK1.3.1_02 Apparently the Memory Usage bar does not report accurately the memory that is being used. I currently see in IDEA that I'm using 35 of 64MB, while if I go to the Task Manager, it reports that it's using 93MB with a Peak of 99MB.
At first we weren't sure if this was a Windows/Java problem, or was it with IDEA. Well we just so happened to have implemented our own Garbage Collector display in much the same manner as IDEA. Using our own application and Garbage Collector Memory Usage bar, it reported back accurately the same memory as was reported in Task Manager. Which leads me to believe that IDEA is somehow inaccurately showing how much memory it is truly using. Also, there seems to be an unordinary high number of Page Faults, which slow down the whole system with all those Read/Writes from the Cache/RAM. I'm getting on average 36 per second, with a high of 62 and a low of 24. That's with me not even in IDEA. I know these things aren't to do with Java, because I have other Java apps open that aren't giving me any Page Faults. Having run my system this morning for only 1 1/2 hours, I already have 500,000 Page Faults coming from IDEA. The next closest is at 150,000.
