Since this bug is still happening in 629, and I don't know if you've fixed
it 630 or not, I thought I'd do a little bit more research today since it's
been happening to me quite a bit.

The last time I got the character, I decided to save the file and open it
up in a hex editor. Turns out the character it's putting in is a SYN
character. (Hex: 16, Dec: 22) This is also known as ^V in some character
sets, which is interesting, because I most commonly see this character pop
up after hitting CTRL-V.

No idea what the SYN character is used for in java, but it sounds like it's
sent in place of data to keep "systems" synchronized.

Here's the defitinition of it, according to
http://www.its.bldrdoc.gov/fs-1037/dir-035/_5243.htm :
synchronous idle character (SYN): A transmission control character used in
synchronous transmission systems to provide a signal from which synchronism
or synchronous correction may be achieved between data terminal equipment,
particularly when no other character is being transmitted.

Any JetBrains guys know why this character would ever end up in IDEA?

Ian.
