I typically compile to a remotely mounted directory although my source code and project are located locally. On some occassions the remote directory is not mounted for whatever reason, IDEA compiles and reports back a successful compilation... it doesn't let you know that it can't actually write the compiled files out. Is there any way IDEA can check for this situation and let you know? Yes, the compile was success, but, no, the intention to write it out was not.
