It seems that: - the Ant editing slowdown is different from Java performance issues - there is no bug report for Ant script editing performance (at least I didn't find any) - several people here said they had this problem
So I filed a new bug report so we can vote and track the solution: http://www.intellij.net/tracker/idea/viewSCR?publicId=5022 Since probably 650 (or so) editing of large Ant build scripts became very painful.
