Some of IDEA refactoring features such as class rename or move are very difficult to use without a better support since Perforce need to be informed manually that the actions new class is actually a new version of the old one ('p4 integrate' command) (a simple delete and add file will break the history relation between the files). The general API can be a Java API with a user provided implementation or similar to the exiting External Tools facility where a user provided program is called with the necessary information about the operation done by IDEA. For example, the class rename will call something like 'myCommand classRename aa/bb/cc.java aa/bb/dd.java' or something along these lines.
