It would be helpful if IDEA supported Save and Save As. The thing I really miss (from other IDEs) is getting prompted to save or discard changes when I exit the application.
Also, it'd be nice if you could setup external tools to run against the changed source without saving changes to the source file. So save the changes to a temp file and pass that to the external tool, then synch IDEA with the temp file once the external tool has finished. This would allow me to run a tool on my source file(s) and discard the results if I don't like them.
One last thing, I recently downloaded Eclipse and it displayed an X on the active tab to close that editor. I'd like to see that feature added to IDEA.
