It would be more better, if IDEA would create an .idea directory in the 
home directory (even on Windows) and stores every user settings there. This 
was requested a long time ago from several people (especially from the Unix 
world, but Win2k has it's own problems with user-permissions ...).

This would solve at least two problems:
(1) you do not leave your settings and
(2) you do not need write access to the IDEA installation directory.

IntelliJ guys, maybe this could be solved in Pandora or at the beginning of 
Ariadna.
