hi. I have to things today... ok it's really a bunch: 1.I don't care much for method separators in the editor... I find that comments(/** */) usually handle this job pretty well but.. on the other hand, method separators would be great in the right hand margin.
2. I have come to think about development as being one of two super-tasks: exploration and construction. construction is the fun part where you start with a blank editor and code, possibly also refactoring even though refactoring is sometimes mind numbing. Exploration is when you look for bugs, do code clean-up,try to understand what the hell an other programmer has done, or even what the hell you did many month ago when you wrote some code. I wish IDEA focused a bit more on the Exploration aspect of development... because those are lacking: Here are some examples -provide some use-case-like tool to find execution paths through the code -add more functionality to the bookmarks so that we can actually annotate them(not just write a 1 line note) and view them more easily. Possibly even group them. -provide a single tree view of the whole project where all source, classes, jars and zips, etc. are in one structure. The projects I work on tend to have source spread over many directories and libraries and having one structure to look through would be great. -be able to select windows to keep open, and windows to discard as you Browse (ctrl-B) the code. -Allow disabling of Classepath and Sourcepath without removing in project options. -provide more details in search results so we do not have to always open an object to understand context. Anyway... my point is more code exploration tools please. what do you guys think? Florian Hehlen.
