Yes I know but this is a special case. Subversion is an Open Source project by the people who did CVS (Karl Fogel for example) to replace CVS. IMHO there is enough problems with CVS that it will not take much to have Subversion take over the CVS user base when done. In addition it is mostly backward compatible and it has a built-in migration path from CVS.
