First, I believe this might change in 1.4. Second, there are a couple of tricks to work around this. You could test for the window being resized to the screen size and assume it is a maximizing. In 1.3.1, Java did not know about the taskbar being removed from the usable screen area, though. Not sure if this was changed in 1.4.
