-1 SWT is great for all those use windows, but it's utterly worthless on any other platform, and will ALWAYS remain this way despite everyone insisting otherwise.
The jgoodies LAF though is very impressive, though I'm not sure about how well it performs. It is possible to have a very fast responsible swing GUI, IDEA used to be an example of that (but the current eap is definitely not), bugseeker is another product that really stands out in terms of responsiveness and good GUI design. I agree that menus, and pretty much all button clicks are hopelessly slow in IDEA. Under OSX in IDE options, clicking on any item in the left tree view takes at least one whole second.
