Hi Pepe, > I'm writing IDEA plugin for graphical GUI development. What do you think > about? Is it valuble for you? The success of VB was coming from the fact that it took literally minutes to get "something" going. With Swing, you need a _good_ understanding of _lots_ of things to get "hello world" up+running.
I think that threre shouldn't be one, but tow IDEA plugins for GUI ;-) o a "VB"-like plugin that generates lots of surrounding code, but makes "hello world" easy. This would be good for marketing reasons, but real progrommers don't need it. o one "fast UI Panel designer" plugin, that really helps you to get some nasty layout (in real-time) right, including the resizing stuff. This plugin should export XML, and have one generator that generates Swing code. The generator should be pluggable, so everybody could adjust the code generation to his/her needs. Like anybody else i've developed my own small set of "helper" classes (stuff like "SwingMapping", "SwingConnectionManger", "I18nManager", ..) and that requires some (minor) tweaking of the general code generation. I wouldn't like a plugin that does both look (visual design) and feel (connection of widgets to code and vice versa), for me the "look only part" would be the most valuable.
