I noticed there's a request (#3564) to be able to lock editor tabs to
prevent them from being auto-closed when the tab limit is reached.

I have the tab limit set pretty high (40), so I don't really ever encouter
that particular problem, but i wondered if other people find themselves in
the following situation...

I'll be happily working along on a few files, and then someone will call and
i'll hafta open about 10 other files to answer their question. When i'm
done, i end up with a huge clutter of open files. Sometimes i wish i could
just hit a single keystroke that would close all the crap i'm not interested
in. That is, if i could lock the files i'm interested in before i open
others, i could later just hit some sorta Close All Unlocked files keystroke
and quickly return back to what i was doing.

I considered adding this as a comment to #3564, but didn't since it was only
partially related. Plus, i wanted to see whether others might think it
useful first. Maybe i should just suck it up and deal with it. Or maybe i
should just stop answering the phone ;-)

I'm on the fence as to whether I should even request it. Right now, for me
it's one of those "yeah, it'd be nice to have, but only if the JetBrains
folks find they have absolutely nothing better to do but stare at the wall
and drool" kinda features.

Thoughts or flames?

thanks,

chris
