Niclas, Do you have a copy of David Flanagan's "Java in a Nutshell - 3rd Ed." (O'Reilly)? Check on page 122 in the section "Specifying the containing instance".
I'm using Sun's J2SE 1.3.1. Did you try cutting/pasting/compiling the snippet of code in IDEA?
