I find that when IDEA is Updating its caches its quite a heavy weight 
process, my project has over 6000 files in source and classpath (jar's) and 
it use almost a gig of memory (if allowed) to create these caches, BUT when 
it has done creating them I think the memory managment is better. If I open 
the project up and the caches are loaded off disk as opposed to being 
Updated the project opens in under 100mb (capped to 128mb)

A big problem though is that if I use the side bars to open up 1:Project or 
any of the other options I get this error

Exception occurred during event dispatching:
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
        <<no stack trace available>>

and the menus become useless as they do not open, all that can be done is 
edit files being jumping to them using ctrl-n (a great feature by the way :) 
)
