I too have had occasions when the app under test has failed with some form of exception and this seems to have resulted in idea hanging - only solution is to kill idea from the task manager.
I have no idea what the test app failed on though and it's not happened at all in the last few days - I thought it was caused by some other conflict between what I had running at the time - but maybe not ...
