The static methods cannot be overriden (they are called staticaly that's why they are static). So what you are doing is more like overloading

a static methods declared in a subclass whose signature is identical to a method in the superclass is missing the clickable "O" on the left of the editor.

although technically it's not always called overriding, I like that in IDEA  this cases are treated as such
