The EAP builds tend to be fairly stable. We get a bad build every once in a
while, but most people on the list use the latest EAP builds for daily work.
When installing a new EAP build, here's the process most of us go through,
I'll give my specific example:

Idea is installed in d:\java\idea.

1) Rename d:\java\idea to d:\java\idea<build-num>
2) Download new EAP build, extract to d:\java\idea
3) Copy contents of d:\java\idea<build-num>\config\options to
d:\java\idea\config\options
4) Copy idea.license from d:\java\idea<build-num>\bin to d:\java\idea\bin
5) Edit d:\java\idea\bin\idea.bat as necessary

You may need to copy over more files from the config directory (or it's
subdirectories) if you modify the keymap or add your own external tools or
templates. I don't, so all I need is the config\options directory.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [Eap-list] stable build?

Hi,

Can someone tell me which is the most stable build? I still have the build#
459 which I got from web-site and really want to try out some of the new
features like line numbers etc. Also, what's the safe way of trying out new
builds from eap? Should I install in a seperate folder or just backup some
specific files?

Thanks,
Tahir Awan
