You don't need to do that. Just type Class.<ctrl-space>, instead of variable.<ctrl- space>. The problem with putting it in the variable is that you end up with an instance variable accessing static methods, and it isn't obvious from the code that you aren't really changing the state of an object (unless the project uses some kind of naming convention for static variables and methods).
I agree however, it is a stylistic preference. It is, unfortunately, available in the language.
