This isn't quite the right behaviour for me.  I want autocomplete on for
common prefixes, but for the cursor to move if the common prefix is already
there.  To use Claus's example:

someInstance.meth|odFirst

Hit ctrl-space and the cursor jumps over "od" instead of inserting them.
Basically, if the letter you're about to auto-insert is already to the right
of the cursor, jump over it instead.  If there isn't any (matching) text to
the right then just drop in the text.  This should be the default behaviour
for autocompleting common prefixes.
