If I understand Edo correctly, I think the same is
true for VSS "Do you want to check out?". If I'm
too fast, I get this dialog twice, which causes
problems. I would also suggest "locking" the editor
or otherwise ignoring additional check-out commands
until the file is actually checked out.

it's too easy to repeatedly invoke the 'do you want to invoke cvs edit?'
dialog, 
because the focus goes back to the editor window before the cvs edit has
finished.
perhaps the dialog should stay there until the cvs edit is done and the file
is recognized as writable by idea.
