What version of internet explorer is used? I similarly am experiencing no problem.
I would guess that someone on the list is sending a multi-part alternative message
with Html. Outlook is trying to render the html, and consequently dieing.

I use pegasus mail www.pmail.com, and have no such problems, but it has its own
internal html renderer, and doesn't rely on the configuration whims of the system. (it
has the side benefit, that I don't get any of the viruses that seem to propigate
through outlook).

Try upgrading to a new version of IE, and if that doesn't work, configure outlook to
force viewing text-only mode (i.e. don't display the fancy version if a plain version
exists).
