I believe I have now changed my mind on my position with regards to auto-indentation 
as 
we type (and cut & paste).

I think there should be an option in intellij that no text should be out of the 
prescribed  
indentation style  This means that all text should be in a form as if the user had 
done a ctrl-
alt-i (autoindent lines).  More and more often I am finding that I have to break my 
train of 
thought to correct intellij's accidental mis-indentation of code.

Most of the time its because I copy a line of code from one part to another. It 
inserts exactly 
what I copied into the exact current cursor position...As odd as this sounds, this 
isn't usually 
what I wanted.

Another place where I get burned is in switch statements.

case foo:
      stmt1;
      sttmt2;
      break;
      case bar:


Note that intellij doesn't out-dent the next case statement after a break or return.
