Could you please provide a small button beside the text field, that shows a popup menu, when clicked. The user can choose there, what (s)he wants (e.g. "Beginning of line", "End of line") and the corresponding string is inserted in the text field. This would improve the usability for not-regular-expression-accustomed users a lot.
