Title: RE: [Eap-list] #607 and jdk1.4 (OFFTOPIC)

Hi all,

Quite often this list can get a bit bitchy when it comes to the types of questions asked. I was disappointed and ashamed to see a reader stoop so low as to include sexist comments about a female using the list. I dread to think what a black user would get for asking a question!!

I don't want to waste my time reading things like that and I wish people wouldn't waste their time writing it. The IT industry has enough trouble retaining females without the fringe 'dark-room' coders adding such tripe to serious and useful discussion forums like these. It aint funny and it certainly aint clever. (We aren't all computer-nerds, honest!)

This list serves a very useful function in that it allows us to take a professional role in the development of this amazing IDE. Don't ruin it by being steriotypes.

That's all.

Scott

Subject: [Eap-list] #607 and jdk1.4 (OFFTOPIC) and jdk 1.3 IBM (back to
the topic)

hello all you responder,

be assured that I have never before got as much answers. and - believe it or
not - I don't belong to the sort "PLZ HELP ME!!! URGENT!!!" but  rather to
the sort of "don't ask, read the dox" - even if I am female and new to this
list (nebenbei: was fr ein bescheuerter kommentar, auch wenn ich gegrinst
hab).

maybe I should refactor my question to pointing out:
* idea does not start up running a jdk 1.3 - though that is the recommended
version
* but starts up running a jdk 1.4 (leaving aside how it works after start up)
- though this is not a supported version.

so, I would suggest to change the text in the dialog box to: "Please use the
Sun JDK 1.3". or - the solution I would prefer (I understand that my opinion
is of no relevance) - make idea at least jdk-specification compatible so that
it works independently of the jre-implementation.

Chantal
