No, i thought it was weird too at first, but i kinda like it now. I noticed that the Hierarchy tab is also gone, no longer appearing as greyed out (until you do a CTRL-H, of course).
Perhaps the intention was to silence the "Why is my Hierarchy Tab greyed out?" questions?
