+1 (to Tom's idea)

Many apps do exactly that -- show an initial screen asking which project to
open, but they also have a checkbox for "don't show me this again".

Similarly (but not a huge deal) I noticed that if I have the "reopen last
project" checked when I close a project, then close IDEA, that the same
project is reopened when I start IDEA again. Perhaps it should not open the
last project if IDEA closed down with no open project.

Or at least make it very optional. I don't for one don't need more
splashscreens, and don't have a problem pressing e.g. ctrl-shift-o (not
default assigned) to open a project or something else to reopen a recent
project.
