Good idea, get JBuilder and say goodbye to any kind of EAP, IntelliJ-like support (i.e. being able to discuss problems with the developers) and IDEA's great features in general. What's the difference between reading through a bunch of mails each day and having a look at a newsgroup each day? Company firewalls might be a reason for not having newsgroups but a web interface would do the job.
Personally I really prefer the newsgroup solution. At work I don't have the time to read the mails from the mailing list at all most of the time, so I do it at home and there are no firewalls (at least none that would prevent me from newsgroup access).
