Dont know if this is useful but I had a similar problem recently that fixed
itself after the graphics card in my machine was found to be faulty, and our
tech support people replaced it. In fact in my case it went a step further
and NO java applicatin would actually start because they couldnt figure out
what the graphics context should be.

Im not sure if thats any use but its the only time ive seen the excpetion
you've listed below.

If anyone does figure this out, id also like to kept posted
