Hello Kenneth,

We have EasyBuild-1.2.0 installed on our system. I need to upgrade to v1.6.0.
Will the bootstrap installation upgrade the current version to the newer one if
I set the installation path (--prefix) to the current installation location?
or, I have to make a fresh installation and then point the environment
variables to the new installation?

Subject: [easybuild] [ANN] EasyBuild v1.6.0

Hello EasyBuilders,

We're proud to announce the release of EasyBuild v1.6.0, featuring (initial)
support for using Lmod as a modules tool, adding support for 26 new software
packages and some minor bug fixes.

We have passed the thresholds of supporting more than 300 different software
packages (314 now in total), and of supplying over 1,500 easyconfig files.
The latter only makes the need for the "fat" easyconfigs support even larger,
but that feature has (again) been postponed for a future release...

EasyBuild v1.6.0 basically passed a full regression test [1], although with one
(very) minor hickup. For one of the 1,524 builds, a single one of the 2000+
unit tests specific to that software package (CP2K) failed consistently.
Since this is clearly a non-blocker given the very limited scope, we just
opened an issue for this problem [2], and continued with the release process.

EasyBuild v1.6.0 is available via GitHub[3] and PyPi [4]. Enjoy!

Note: due to summer holidays, the next EasyBuild release is planned for end of
August 2013 (not end of July as per the usual monthly release schedule).

regards,

Kenneth
