afaik, this should work, if not, it's considered a bug and you should open an issue (or even better a PR) for it under easybuild-framework.
wrt naming schemes, we (at UGent) are using the default naming scheme. as part of VSC collaboration, we might switch to a custom naming scheme to rename some toolchains (eg ictce -> intel), but we (ie kenneth ;) will look into Lmod and hierarchical modules, so the customisation might become a bit more than just that.
