Hi and welcome to EasyBuild! I don't think we are very close to implementing the new version of the easyconfig format. It has been discussed a few times, but is mostly in the discussion state.
Maybe we will spend some time talking about it in Austin in November. It would address some overall issues with dependencies. I'm sure when Kenneth is back from vacation he will be able to give a more firm timeline.
