Hi,

I am wondering how EasyBuild handling of Java is intended to be used. I am
trying to built R 3.3.3 and 3.4.0 in intel/2017a using the descriptions in EB
3.2.1. The build fails on Java 1.8.0_121. The tarball for this is not
automatically downloaded and it seems not easily available any longer.

It takes a bit of digging, but you can find the files for older versions.

Here's how (use your browsers search function to find the links if you can't spot them, some are embedded in a blob of text >_<):

java.com -> Free Java Download -> See all Java downloads -> Looking for the JDK? -> JDK downloads -> Java Archive

Or, for the lazy (not sure if this link will keep working): http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/archive-139210.html

I got the tarball for 1.8.0_131 and hacked to gether a config for 1.8.0_131.
Should I now hack into the R configs to move those versions? For sure I can
do this, but I am wondering whether there is a more elegant way to do this.

In principle I hit that issue every time there is a Java dependency.

Thanks
