The problem seems to be an HTTPS issue, see:

ssl.SSLError: [SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed (_ssl.c:841)


Not sure if that's something on the system you are using (the Python built by EasyBuild has checks for this), or some problem upstream.

It's quite possible that the mnist_with_summaries.py example script that EasyBuild is using to check the TensorFlow installation got broken due to changes in the TensorFlow repositories...

Looks like others have hit similar issues, see for example https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/issues/10779, maybe that's helpful?
