Please make sure you download the bootstrap script from the 'develop'
branch (you're downloading it from the easybuild-framework-v4.0.0 tag
here), otherwise you'll get an old copy of the script.
You should always download the bootstrap script from develop, see also
the instructions at
https://easybuild.readthedocs.io/en/latest/Installation.html#bootstrapping-procedure.
The bootstrap script was fixed only very recently, shortly *after* the
EasyBuild v4.0.0 release, due to a chicken-egg situation (EasyBuild
v4.0.0 needed to be released first in order to ensure the bootstrap
script worked properly to install it); see
